  22. [I] Fastest Fourier Transform in The West
  23. [T] FFTW is a C subroutine library for computing the
  24. [T] Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) in one or more
  25. [T] dimensions, of both real and complex data, and of
  26. [T] arbitrary input size. We believe that FFTW, which is
  27. [T] free software, should become the FFT library of c
  28. [T] choice for most applications. Our benchmarks, performed
  29. [T] on on a variety of platforms, show that FFTW's
  30. [T] performance is typically superior to that of other publicly
  31. [T] available FFT software. Moreover, FFTW's performance
  32. [T] is portable: the program will perform well on
  33. [T] most architectures without modification.

  35. [T] It is difficult to summarize in a few words all the
  36. [T] complexities that arise when testing many programs, and
  37. [T] there is no "best" or "fastest" program. However,
  38. [T] FFTW appears to be the fastest program most of the
  39. [T] time for in-order transforms, especially in the
  40. [T] multi-dimensional and real-complex cases (Kasparov is
  41. [T] the best chess player in the world even though he
  42. [T] loses some games). Hence the name, "FFTW," which
  43. [T] stands for the somewhat whimsical title of "Fastest
  44. [T] Fourier Transform in the West." Please visit the
  45. [T] benchFFT home page for a more extensive survey of
  46. [T] the results. It comes with a MPI version and Matlab
  47. [T] wrappers.
